Key factor S: Social sustainability in the real estate industry

This study examines how social sustainability can be operationalised in the real estate sector.

Existing European assessment standards are analysed, and a harmonised approach to measuring social criteria is proposed. Compared to environmental and governance objectives, the implementation of social sustainability aspects poses a particular challenge due to the lack of clear evaluation benchmarks. The aim of the study is to define measurable indicators for social sustainability and to develop an assessment framework aligned with the requirements of the real estate industry. This is intended to enable the sector to achieve social objectives more effectively and to increase its contribution to sustainable urban development.
